A Leesburg home offers life in a town with a quaint historic feel just under 40 miles from Washington D.C. This is a good distance to feel away from the hustle and bustle but still be able to get there easily. Historic Downtown Leesburg is truly the center of it all with a history starting 250 years ago. The old buildings are a sight to see and there are so many things to discover there. Find one of a kind shops, chances to eat and drink, watch for special events, and even choose to live right downtown. The old blends with the new with other shopping opportunities around town. Leesburg Corner Premium Outlets and Village at Leesburg offer a more modern approach to shopping. Also be sure to grab some fruits, veggies, cheese, meat, and other goodies for your Leesburg home at the Leesburg Farmers Market, which is open every Saturday morning year round. When you don’t feel like cooking there are also a huge variety of restaurants in Leesburg which can satisfy nearly any type of craving.
Families in the area feel good about sending their children to the well rated Loudoun County Public Schools, signing up for activities with the Parks and Recreation Department, attending special events, and getting the whole family outdoors. The signature events of Leesburg, which draw in many visitors each year, are the Flower and Garden Festival the 3rd weekend of April, the Independence Day celebration, and the Leesburg Airshow held the last Saturday in September.
There are 16 parks throughout Leesburg with areas for tots, larger playgrounds, walking paths, picnic areas, and much more. Ball’s Bluff Battlefield Regional Park offers the chance to learn about the battlefield, view the national cemetery, and enjoy seven miles of trails. Just outside of town is Red Rock Wilderness Overlook, which provides moderate to strenuous opportunities for hiking that feature beautiful views of the Potomac River and the foothills of the Blue Ridge. Families can also spend time together on the W&OD Trail. Walk, run, bike, or skate along this 45 mile paved trail that runs from Alexandria to Purcellville.
In addition to Ball’s Bluff Battlefield and National Cemetery and Historic Downtown Leesburg, there are many chances to experience history near Leesville real estate. Loudoun Museum offers many rotating exhibits and programs for children. Morven Park hosts horse shows, includes an equestrian center, and features the historic home of Virginia Governor Westmoreland Davis. Two other places to visit are the Oatlands Historic House and Gardens, home of the Carter and Eustis families, and the Thomas Balch Library. This library houses many local history collections and is also an Underground Railroad research site.
